European Criminal Records Information System

Utilising the European Union scheme for criminal record checks  in pre-employment screening.

European Criminal Records Information System is a pan-European scheme for exchange of information on criminal convictions among the EU member states. It was introduces in 2012 and has been gradually developed since.

The System does not include any centralised, Europe-wide  databases. On the contrary, it is decentralised and based on co-operation of national Criminal Records Bureaus (CRBs) of 27 EU member states. The System allows each EU state’s CRB to make inquiries for information on individual’s criminal convictions to the CRB of other EU states. Before the European Criminal Records Information System introduction such requests were limited by various bureaucratic requirements. Today it is facilitated by the legislation as well as a dedicated IT system, which automates the process of criminal records inquires.

Various EU member states participate in the System to a different extent, depending on thr national laws regulating  functioning of the CRBs at a state level. Nevertheless, thanks to the System, information on criminal convictions is now accessible and our company, named by the EU scheme – European Criminal Records Information Services (ECRIS) are happy to let you embody this mechanism in your pre-employment screening process.

Currently we provide criminal record checks in 24 out of 27 EU member states.
